United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat, Sarai Omar has expressed disappointment with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission [IEBC] for postponing the gubernatorial election slated for next week saying they were ready and well prepared to participate in the exercise.

He said they have received IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati’s announcement with disbelief pointing out that the postponement of the much awaited exercise was wrong.

“We had worked hard preparing for the election only to hear that the exercise was postponed,” he pointed out.

Sarai said the postponement of the gubernatorial election by the electoral body has affected them mentally and socially.

He was speaking during a media briefing held at the hustler centre in Nyali constituency, Mombasa county where he was flanked by his running mate Selina Maitha. The UDA candidate said to make matters worse the move has affected them physically and emotionally and has an effect on their resources in preparing for the exercise.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat, Sarai Omar makes a point during a media briefing held at the hustler centre in Nyali constituency, Mombasa county where he was flanked by his running mate Selina Maitha. He lashed out at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission [IEBC] for postponing the gubernatorial election slated for next week saying they were ready and well prepared to participate in the exercise.

Sarai regretted the decision has created anxiety and has given rise to gossip among other effects on the electorate.

“Time has come for the county gubernatorial race to be held so that people carry on with their daily business operations,” he pointed out.The former Mombasa senator told journalists they have been reduced to a laughing stock for such a thing has never happened since the country got its independence.

Sarai however added that despite the challenges the IEBC is facing at the moment it had put in hard work to ensure the general election was relatively free and fair.
