Representatives of various youth groups engaging in sports have called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to give nod for the completion of the New Dandora Stadium.

Construction of the 19,000 seater capacity ultra-modern stadium stalled last year to allow for investigations into possible embezzlement of taxpayers money.

However, according to the youths, the investigating agencies should allow the county government to finish its construction. They claim that the stadium is key to development of sports in the area and Nairobi in particular.

“We are calling on President Uhuru to intervene and help us because this stadium means a lot to us,” Said Benson Wamburu, a youth leader in Dandora.

The stadium was nearing completion, with 90 percent of the work having been done by December last year.

According to Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, the stadium was constructed according to Fifa international standards, Dandora Stadium will be the third-best stadium in the country after Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums.

However, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives are still investigating alleged procurement illegalities and irregular payment of Sh 196 million for the stadium.

The county government had planned to construct five new stadiums in Nairobi before the lapse of Governor Mike Sonko’s term
