Azimio coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate who is Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua led their  brigade to drum up support  for immediate former Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir who is ODM Mombasa gubernatorial candidate in Monday’s election.

The gubernatorial election was postponed during the just concluded general election.

In a surprise move Changamwe legislator Omar Mwinyi said he will rally his supporters to vote for Abdulswamad in next week’s poll.

He told a well attended meeting that he has buried his political hatchet with Abdulswamad after Raila’s intervention for the sake of unity and prosperity.”A day prior to the forum we held a meeting with Abdulswamad and we agreed to work as a team,” he pointed out.

The local legislator who led his colleagues and twenty-three newly elected members of the Mombasa county assembly, vowed to conduct massive door to door campaigns to ensure Abdulswamad succeeds incumbent Hassan Ali Joho in the much awaited polls.Raila, on his part, said the postponement of both Kakamega and Mombasa gubernatorial elections had targeted his quest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta during the just ended general elections.
The ODM leader was speaking at an electrified forum led by Langata MP elect and media personality Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o held at Wild Waters Centre in Nyali constituency, Mombasa county.

He said there was fear that he would overwhelmingly win the presidential poll which is in dispute before the supreme court in Nairobi.

“The postponement of the two gubernatorial elections was a scheme to deter me from gaining victory to be the country’s fifth Head of State,” he added.

Karua told the forum they have enough evidence that the presidential election was rigged in favour of their political rival Kenya Kwanza alliance Presidential candidate who is Deputy President William Ruto.

She insisted one does not need rocket science to prove Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chair Wafula Chebukati bungled the presidential election results.

“We are confident that the supreme court will rule in our favour and quash Ruto’s victory,” she said.

On his part, Abdulswamad cautioned his political rivals any attempt to rig next week’s polls will be repulsed.

He urged his supporters to be vigilant and prevent any malpractice during the poll.

“Let us turn up in large numbers to shut up our opponents’ big mouths on the polling day and we should stop them from undermining my bid,” he pointed out.
