Nairobi senator elect Edwin Sifuna and Esther Passaris who was reelected to the Woman Representative office were nowhere to be seen as the new Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja took oath of office.

The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance are yet to give reasons why they skipped despite having received invitation from Sakaja himself.

The event was graced by President elect William Ruto and hundreds of Nairobi residents who thronged KICC to witness Sakaja take office as the fourth governor of Nairobi.

Immediate former governor Ann Kananu and Nairobi Metropolitan Services boss Mohammed Badi were present to usher in the city boss.

While addressing journalists at City Hall, Makongeni MCA elect Peter Imwatok in the company of other Azimio La Umoja MCAs explained that they skipped the meeting after learning that President elect William Ruto was set to attend.

According to Imwatok, attending the inauguration in the presence of Ruto would mply that the leaders have acknowledged the DP as having validly elected yet their coalition leader Raila Odinga has petitioned the August 9 presidential results.

“ Governor Sakaja invited us and assured us that the DP will not be attending but that was not the case when some of us were planning just to get in,” he said.

The MCAs however clarified that they have no problem with Sakaja considering that Polycarp Igathe, who was the Azimio candidate, has conceded defeat.

In speech,Sakaja promised to work with all elected leaders in Nairobi as he prepares to bring back all the transferred functions from the NMS.
