BBI sails through in Nairobi as MCAs Unanimously endorse
A hundred and fourteen county legislatures have approved the constitution amendment bill in a unanimous vote.
The motion was moved by Kahawa Ward rep Joseph Komu who is also chairperson for legal affairs and justice committee.
The Majority Whip Paul Kados successfully rallied his colleagues to pass the bill stating they stand to benefit greatly once the proposed amendment is passed into law.
Kiamaiko ward rep James Mwangi termed the Constitutional Amendment bill, 2020 as an important tool that will unlock the Kenya’s economic potential and greatly change the face of the country on matters development.
“We are happy that this document has passed and we are now ready for referendum,” Mwangi said.
Parklands MCA Jayendre Malde said the report meant well for residents as it proposed ward development fund be entrenched into the Constitution.
“With BBI, each ward will get KSh 20 million every year for development, with such funding it will mean that we will be able to complete the stalled projects and roll out new ones,” stated Malde.
The youth and gender CAS Rachael Shebesh was present to follow on the debate.
The proceedings also attracted Embakasi East Mp Babu Owino, Makadara Mp George Aladwa, nominated Mp Maina Kamanda and Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja.
