Nairobi MCAs unanimously approve BBI report

Nairobi County Assembly became the 10th assembly to adopt the BBI referendum Bill.

All the 109 MCAs present in the house voted to adopt the bill while five voted yes via zoom.The MCAs declared the BBI Bill as progressive and good for Nairobi in terms of Development.

The mover of the motion Mr Joseph Kome who chairs the Justice and Legal committee said that they were satisfied with the views given by members of the public during the public participation forum held on Wednesday.

Leader Abdi Hassan Guyo said that BBI will provide a longterm solution to the divisive politics that have always threatened the stability of the capital city.

” After every five years Nairobi residents are always treated to violence because of power battles and BBI provides the much needed solution” Guyo said.Minority leader Michael Ogada said that the bill is youth friendly and will empower MCAs at the ward level.”

This document gives the a tax holiday to our youths who can now own business and they strive for prosperity.The MCAs are no longer going to be beggers because they will have their own kitty,” Odaga said.

Minority whip Peter Imwatok also lauded the contents of the document which he said will massively improve oversight of county resources” We are going to have our own MCAs being appointed to the county cabinet and they will be here to respond to questions” he said.Majority of the speakers also hailed the proposals that directs political parties to ensure that they meet the two thirds gender rule in all their party nominations.

They also noted that if BBI passes, the county will now get an extra Sh14 billion bringing the total from the ex-chequer to Sh31billion.

The county collects approximately Sh11billion from it’s one revenue sourcesThe MCAs called on Nairobi residents to ignore leaders who are against the bill,noting that such leader have no clue of the problems faced by city residents.

They promised to hit the ground running and vigourously campaign for BBI.
