Bungoma County assures traders full support as they hold elections

Bungoma town Chief Officer for Trade Denson Barasa has assured traders of conducive environment, tight security and trade loan disbursement.
While addressing media after Mawe Kubwa market traders’ elections which was held on Tuesday, Barasa attributed the lack of steady growth among them to the current poor working environment and infrastructure, lack of electrification and clean water.
Barasa however, affirmed traders that his ministry under Governor Lusaka’s governance is devoted to rewrite the narrative of traders in Bungoma since they play a major economical role not only in the county but also to the country at large.
“Lusaka’s government is committed to ensure you carry out your business without any interference since you play a critical role in tax payment and it is high time you need a conducive place to undertake your business,” affirmed Barasa.
He also revealed that the county government is in the process of installing lights in 104 market centres in the quest to achieve a 24 hour economy dream.
“Lighting up our towns will be opening up and extending working hours for our traders while at the same time reducing cases of insecurity in our county,” Barasa reiterated.
On the other hand, the Chief Officer mentioned that plans are underway for disbursement of trade loans once it is given green light by County Assembly.
“Besides trade loan, there is youth empowerment and other funds which will be of great benefit to not only traders but also the community at large,” The Chief Officer stated.
In the successfully run elections, the traders elected Mr.Danisio Were as their Chairman, Joshua Kuloba as the Treasurer, Josephine Akinyi as the Organising Secretary, Everlyne Wanjiku as the Women Representative, Kituyi Wepukhulu to be in charge of Welfare and Oscar Ngome as the Youth Leader.
The exercise was overseen by Township ward Administrator Patricia Nyongesa, officials from Ministry of Trade and Cooperatives as well as the County Directorate of Enforcement.
“We are grateful that the election was carried out well without any interference, let those elected represent their colleagues well so that they can achieve mutual growth in their next 3 years’ service,” said Nyongesa.
