Kenya received a donation of 880,320 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine from the United States government through the COVAX facility on Monday morning.

This second batch of Moderna vaccine donation, which was transported by UNICEF, is aimed at helping the country as it begins a robust vaccination drive.

“For us to reopen our economy we need to have achieved herd immunity…government is doing its part to acquire vaccines…Kenyans should avail themselves to be vaccinated,”said Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman.

He further urged Kenyans to come out and get vaccinated, saying the government aims to attain a target of 10 million people by December this year.

The consignment brings to 1.76 million doses that Kenya has so far received from the United States after an initial batch of 880,460 Moderna doses arrived on August 23, 2021.

“All vaccines are equally good. Let us not be selective. We appeal to our county governments to support our efforts,”said Dr.Rashid Aman
