Nairobi County Attorney on the Spot as Pending Legal Fee hits Ksh.21 Billion

Nairobi County Attorney Lydia Kwamboka is on spot over sky rocketing legal fees city Hall has continued to accumulate.

According to documents in our possession and also placed at the Attorney General’s office, Kwamboka has been working closely with lawyers for her at the end to get part of the share.

In particular, Kwamboka is said to be at the centre of a recent declaration by Governor Johnson Sakaja that the county has legal fees of about Sh.21 billion.

According to Sakaja, some of the lawyers charge huge amount of money on small cases.

In our investigations, Kwamboka has been working closely with some of the legal firms to facilitate their payment for her to get her kickbacks.

Alarmingly, despite hiring the big law firms City Hall has never won any case.

Some of legal firms which Kwamboka is said to be working closely with is Cecil Miller advocates.

So connected is Kwamboka that despite some MCAs raising some questions about the payments nothing serious has never happened to her.

Legal payment from City Hall has been on the spotlight attracting investigation agencies.

In January 2021, the Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission commenced investigations on the payment of legal fees to 26 law firms by City Hall.

In a letter dated January 21, 2021 , EACC asked the County Secretary to furnish it with the specific case files handled by the 26 law firms between 2013 and 2020, including details of the cases, letters of instructions and contract agreements.

“The commission is undertaking investigations at the Nairobi City County in respect of payments of legal fees to the following firms,” reads the letter in part.

The firms included Irungu Kang’ata and Co Advocates, Osundwa and Co Advocates, Kwanga Mboya and Co Advocates, Kithi and Co Advocates, Wanjiku Maina and Co Advocates, E Onyango and Co Advocates, JO Magolo and Co Advocates among other firms.
