Embu college Keen on TVET To Address Unemployment

The Government has been keen in promoting the Technical Vocational Education Training (TVETs) in a bid to address the ever serious concern of unemployment among the youth.

It’s for this reason that Times Digital sought an interview with Mr. Boniface Mwangi who is the Principal Embu College.

The number of students who didn’t achieve University Grades stands at 700,000. All these students can find a place in tertiary Colleges like Embu College. For those with Grade E and D- they can do Artisan Courses, those with D and D+ can take certificate course and C- and C can take Diploma courses.

The Principal elaborates:

“Embu College is situated in the heart of Embu Town just 200 meters from Embu County Assembly. We have positioned ourselves strategically in a bid to offer technical courses to a vast number of students who could not make it to the University. Our courses are tailored to assist the young people either to start a business or for self employment.

Our courses start right from the Artisan level, which then bridges to the Certificate level and from there a student can get a diploma which will be instrumental in giving him or her the leverage to join University.

Some of the courses that Embu College offers include: Automotive Engineering, Plumbing, Electrical installation Food and beverage, Salesmanship just to mention but a few. Embu college uptakes students and offers the courses that are examinable by the Kenya National Examinations Council KNEC.

The Principal Mr. Mwangi also clarified that the students are welcome for free career guidance especially for those students who did not manage to achieve the desired grade.

The Principal offered a free advisory to parents to stop forcing their children to study the courses which they are not passionate about and instead encourage them to go for what they love to do.

He also Underscored the Importance of uptaking the technical and vocational courses especially for the youths urging them not to be addicts of the digital technology.
