Fatma Barayan Lobby’s for 40% of Tenders be Managed by Women Reps

The mention of Mombasa comes with many thoughts and connotations. But for the beach city, one woman has emerged to be a change agent. She is none other than Fatma Barayan. Fatma is no ordinary woman.

Her credentials authenticate her suitability for this job of woman representative. She has five years experience as an advocate, a tool she intends to use to bring meaningful change and development in Mombasa.

The witty counsel says she won’t just confine herself to matters of gender or femininity but she will go out of her way to lobby for resources.

Ms Barayan main target is economic empowerment of the people through a bill she intends to fashion called the microfinance bill through which smes can access credit at a very low interest rates and without collateral.

This will open up the avenue for youths to access credit to use as capital for their businesses away from the punitive bank interests.

She will also lobby for a hospital in every subcounty especially in Mwakirunge in Kisauni constituency where people are at the moment are having to commute all the way to Makadara. She says healthcare is her topmost priority and that it should be accessible and affordable.

She said, “There’s Need to open women reps liaison office in each constituency for ground working and easy reach to the constituents and these offices should be managed by women leaders of each constituency /ward,”

Armed with the requisite legal backing she said she will herald and foster proper working relationship. “There’s also the need to work closely with county government to ensure improvement in drainage ,roads ,water supply ,beatification to attract both local & international tourism.”

As a defender of equality and the gains made so far, the brilliant advocate will lobby for 40% of all tenders to be managed by women reps office for Women ,youth & people living with disability.
