Former Kirinyaga Women Rep on Vote Hunt Mission for Karua

The running mate debate has continued to elicit mixed reactions following the nomination of hon. Martha Karua.

A re known Mwea Constituency Parliamentary aspirant Winnie Karimi has become the latest high profile politician to throw her weight behind Azimio’s Running mate Martha Karua.

Mrs Karimi, who was the first woman representative of Kirinyaga County is now vying under a Narc Kenya party ticket in Mwea.

She believes honourable Martha deserves the seat on merit.

“As Kirinyaga women we are fully behind Martha. She has done us proud and we really thank the Rt Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga for having confidence in women leadership.”

Mrs Karimi added that with Martha at the top office, issues are going to be addressed in a more pragmatic manner.

“Like in Mwea we have issues of water shortage and very poor infrastructure which is why we strongly believe a woman will solve. If constituencies like Mwea can have adequate water, our farmers can be more empowered because they can farm through irrigation,” Mrs Karimi added.

She was emphatic that as the women of this country they are the foot soldiers of Martha Karua and that they are going to hunt votes for her to propel her to the second topmost office in the land.

Education

Mwea has 108 primary schools and only 17 secondary schools; the disparity is stifling the advancement of education and forcing children to drop out of school and marry at a tender age. Hon. Karimi intends to increase the number of secondary schools in the county so that more children are able to get secondary school education.

Water and Land

Mwea has a large amount of canal water for irrigation, but lacks clean piped water. Hon. Karimi intends to improve the water situation through lobbying parliament and the county government to ensure piping of water is done. She also intends to keep promoting the rights of farmers by bringing a parliamentary motion that will enable easier access to land by citizens.

Infrastructure

Kirinyaga county has areas that have very poor infrastructure. Hon. Karimi intends to lobby or development and expend her development efforts to include the improvement of roads.
