Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has teamed up with a former whip in the county assembly to scuttle the bid of a first time MCA gunning to be the majority leader.

Azimio la Umoja Coalition, which forms the majority in the House, is expected to produce the Speaker, Majority Leader, Majority Chief Whip and Budget and Finance committees’ leaders.

According to sources who sought anonymity from Kenya Kwanza coalition Sakaja has been meeting former Whip to sketch a plan to block the said MCA.

“Sakaja and former whip want to bring down Abbas since they fear that he is a leader who cannot be Compromised,” said the MCA.

Some Nairobi MCAs ae also hinting at a possible ploy by unnamed persons to bring confusion at the coalition and malign potential candidates who may clinch the positions

The Times Digital has learnt from some of the ward reps that Governor Sakaja is reportedly seeking a weaker majority leader.

However, the new 33 Ward representatives have declared support for Khalif who is also a first timer.

The MCA’s now want party leadership to consider Abbas for the majority seat saying he’s the one who can champion Azimio agenda in the Assembly

Meanwhile The MCAs led by Abbas have promised to rally behind former Kware Ward Rep Ken Ngondi to be the speaker of the Nairobi county assembly

With Lobbying for the Nairobi County Assembly’s Speaker position having begun in earnest.

Abbas said they will ensure that ngondi will be elected as speaker because of his past experience at the assembly

Those who have shown interest for the seat include former Deputy Speaker Ken Ngondi, former Nairobi Woman Representative Rachael Shebesh, Harrison Wangoro — who vied for Embakasi North MP seat under Jubilee Party — and outgoing Speaker Benson Mutura (right).
