International Shipping Lines Express Confidence in Lamu port

Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] has lauded the confidence of shipping lines in using the port of Lamu.

KPA board chairman Benjamin Tayari has applauded the confidence of investors in using the Lamu facility.

He said he is impressed by the increased investor confidence in the facility through leading international shipping lines.

“The Lamu port has continued complementing the premier port of Mombasa which was developed with adequate capacity due to the customers’ demands,” he pointed out.

Tayari  said he has noted more transshipment business has continued to be directed to the Lamu port.

He was addressing the media after a container carrier MV Ongeo Bora made its maiden call at the port of Lamu in Lamu County.

The KPA board chairman told journalists that the Authority is committed to ensuring smooth cargo operations at the port of Lamu.

Tayari who was flanked by KPA’s General Manager Lamu Port Eng. Vincent Sidai among other KPA senior officials announced soon they will receive new mobile harbour cranes.

He pointed out that  plans are underway for the procurement of new ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes to boost cargo operations at the Lamu port.

KPA senior marine pilot Capt. AbdulAziz Mzee  navigated the ship at the entrance to ensure safety at the facility like at the port of Mombasa  Mombasa

According to the agent, the vessel will be operating between Mombasa, Lamu and Indian Ocean Island ports.

Earlier, Eng. Vincent Sidai presented a certificate of first call to the master of MV Onego Bora Capt. Artem Klinnik who was flanked by Mr.Tylen KIsia, CMA CGM Kenya Limited  Operations  & Logistics  Manager  EAF Cluster Branch Manager -Mombasa.
