Kabogo optimistic he will be next Kiambu governor in August
Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo has expressed confidence that he will be the next county chief in august at the Tujibebe Wakenya party.
Kabogo two days ago joined the Kenya Kwanza Alliance led by William Ruto (UDA), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya).
Speaking during an interview with the media, Kabogo said that he will take over Kiambu County from where he stopped in 2017 after being rigged by his opponents.
He stated that his venture into Kiambu politics came after he identified a gap in the county’s leadership and thus wanted to offer his competence.
“I want to offer a new kind of leadership that is going to transform people’s lives and to ensure objectives of the devolutions and the establishment of the county government are reached, to lift the people out of poverty and empower them,” Kabogo said.
He is expected to face off with the incumbent governor H. E James Nyoro (Kikuyu), Senator Kimani Wamatangi (Kabete), Thika MP Patrick Wainaina (Wajungle from Thika), Hon. Waititu (Limuru) and Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Hon. Stephen Ndicho (Ruiru).
The position has attracted four Women; Community Development Worker Agnes Njoki (Kiambaa), former Kiambu CEC Hon. Juliet Kimemia (Kiambu), ICT guru Mwende Gatabaki from Githunguri who is also the wife of economist David Ndii.
Wamatangi ditched Jubilee and was welcomed to UDA by Ruto during the alliance’s rally at Thika Stadium on Sunday. He said that he had consulted widely before making his decision to join UDA.
Ndichu on Friday led a delegation of 30 Kiambu MCAs to DP Ruto’s Karen home where they officially joined UDA after ditching the ruling party Jubilee.
Kabogo on Sunday during a rally in Thika said that he will work with his newfound partners to not only deliver the Presidency to Ruto but also ensure he clinches the governor’s seat come August 9.
Political analyst Ndung’u Wainaina said that the electorates of Kiambu would this time round ensure that they vote in a leader who is tested and ready to deliver on election promises.
“Kiambu people do not choose leaders, they vote populist politicians whose agendas are anchored in propaganda, poverty eradication, and witch-hunt,” says Mr. Macharia Wainaina, a political analyst and activist.
Whilst Wainaina’s statement may be a true reflection of the voting pattern in Kiambu, leaders are elected on a platform of their populism.
However, Wainaina said that the past performance of Kabogo, especially his efforts in revamping the health sector has enabled him to endear himself again to the people.
Kabogo recently said that the Tujibebe party has been founded on the principles of national unity, peace, and an indivisible country that prides itself on integrity, economic empowerment, and safeguarding the wellbeing of the people of Kenya.
However, the Governor has been saying in his region tours that he wants to take over from where he left Kiambu during his exit in 2017.
As such, he has been trying to woo aspirants to his side so that he can build the party not only in Kiambu but the whole republic.
He is seen to have branded his vehicles among them fuel guzzlers like the ‘hummer’ model.
