The current Kenya Bureau of Standards Managing Director Lt. Col (Rtd) Benard Njiraini was appointed to the post by Trade Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya two years ago.

The appointment followed the exit of Charles Ongwae who was facing abuse of office charges.

The appointment by Munya elevated Njiraini who before the appointment served the State agency as acting Managing Director.

Mr. Njiraini had replaced Benard Nguyo who, too, served KEBS on an interim capacity following the ouster of Ongwae.

Charles Ongwae was arrested and charged alongside 14 others in a tax evasion swoop by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) at the start of the year.

Njiraini had held other key positions within the expansive trade ministry having been appointed as MD to the Trade Ministry affiliated Numerical Machining Complex Limited by CS Munya before getting to KEBS.

His rise to the helm of KEBS shows a man determined to work diligently for the betterment of the agency and was purely through merit. The past two years he has been at the helm can say nothing but that.

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) is a National Standards Body with an overall mandate to promote standardization in industry and trade through standards development, conformity assessment, testing and metrology. It aims at providing standards based solutions that deliver quality and confidence to the consumers.

The above mandate is what Njiraini doing and nothing short of that.
