KFCB Announces Partnership with Kisima Film and Music Awards

The partnership is anchored on the commitment to create a facilitative environment where young creative minds could be nurtured and showcase their talents in film and music for job opportunities.

The Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) on Friday announced its partnership with Kisima Film Awards.

The partnership is anchored on the commitment to create a facilitative environment where young creative minds could be nurtured and showcase their talents in film and music for job opportunities.

Kisima Music and Film Awards had gone lull and got revived by new management led by its new Chairperson Dr. Fred Simiyu.

The award will seek to recognize talents from across the African continent which will go a long way in realizing the dream of giving Africa its own identity through film and music.

The relaunch will further seek to see the entertainment industry back to its feet after the ravage of the dreadful Covid-19 pandemic.

Kisima awards theme for 2020 is ‘Re-awakening the soul, spirit and vibrancy of the African music and film industry’ which was termed refreshing and timely during the event.

KFCB Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ezekiel Mutua said that the theme finds a perfect nexus with KFCB Sinema Mashinani Initiative that also seeks to promote a heightened production and consumption of local content.

“Time has come for us to tell our African stories from our own perspectives and platforms such as Kisima Music and film awards that will definitely encourage our creatives to tell stories of our inter-related yet diverse African culture and beauty,” said Dr. Mutua.

While signing the Memorandum of Understanding, Mutua said, “The future post-Covid-19 pandemic relies on partnerships and collaborations. The industry needs to tap into the African regional block and leverage on African inter-trade dynamics to survive. Film is business and has the potential to create jobs and wealth for our artistes. It is also a powerful tool for promoting African culture and values.”

Kisima Music and Film awards received a sum of Kshs.5 million from KFCB in support of the edition scheduled for 13th December 2020.

KFCB concurrently pledged to award the top winner in a category that will embrace the promotion of clean content with whooping Ksh.1million.

Dr. Mutua gave a word of honor to leverage partnership with Kenya National Drama and Music Festivals to have previous items considered for this Awards in future which will seek to follow up on students beyond school.

Dr. Fred Simiyu lauded KFCB for the support and vowed that the initiative will go a long way to enhance African culture and build solidarity.
