Kirinyaga Senatorial contest begins as ex-Senator karaba joins Kiunjuri party

Former Kirinyaga senator Daniel Karaba has launched his bid to reclaim the seat, after 5 years of his absence in elective politics.

Karaba announced his bid when he was received at The Service Party headquarters in Nairobi, a party he seeks to use as a vehicle to reclaim the seat.

The former senator who was until Tuesday serving as member of Commodity Funds board under the ministry of Agriculture was flanked by a delegation of supporters from Kirinyaga county, who expressed their confidence in the aspirant’s ability to deliver on legislation, representation and oversight on their behalf.

Speaking during the event, TSP leader Mwangi Kiunjuri said the entry of Karaba in TSP was a big boost to party’s quest to reach to the grassroot.

‘’..As a party, we are determined to address issues which touch on each and every citizen, whether we are in government or not. We will exercise fairness in the way we relate with our aspirants and supporters alike.’’ Kiunjuri said.

The TSP leader said that the die is cast and that TSP will neither expose its candidates to joint nominations nor zoning, saying the two exercises deprive off potential leaders’ opportunities to thrive.

‘’…our candidates will go up to the ballot. We will not be drawn into debates of zoning with anyone. That one, we cannot.’’ Kiunjuri said

On his part former senator Karaba said he is ready to battle in the already crowded race for Kirinyaga senatorial seat, claiming that he was the seat was taken from him in the last general election.

‘’…for now, we know that there is a lot of work in guarding the vote. We cannot again allow our victory to be stolen from us.’’ Karaba said

During the 2017 general elections, Karaba garnered 130,925 while contesting on a Jubilee ticket, against senator Charles Kibiru’s 147,921 as an independent candidate.
