Kwale woman rep urges locals to support BBI

The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) constitutional amendment bill will enhance devolution in the country if enacted.

Kwale County Woman Representative Zuleikha Hassan urged local residents to support the initiative which is meant for the country’s growth.

She asked the electorate to rally behind President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga being the architects of the initiative which is meant well for the country.

“The initiative is wealth for the coast region as it will enhance development and those who are against it are against development,” she said.

Zuleikha castigated the opponents for throwing mud at the initiative to be seen as a bad omen ahead of the 2022 general elections.

She spoke when she pitched tent at one of Deputy President William Ruto’s allies Kinango MP Benjamin Tayari’s backyard at the weekend to conduct civic education on the controversial BBI constitutional amendment bill at Busho trading Centre in Mackinon road ward along the Nairobi and Mombasa highway at Kinango sub-county, Kwale county.

The Kwale County Woman Representative pointed out that Ruto and his allies are out to portray a bad picture of the document for their own political mileage.

Zuleikha reminded the forum the opponents of the document don’t mean well for the country beyond next year’s polls.

She vowed to campaign for the document to sail through to be enacted and urged members of county assembly drawn from the region to rally behind the enactment of the initiative.

“There will be more constituencies and creation of employment and closer service to the electorate when the document sails through,” she pointed out.

The county women boss denied claims the document is not good for the country and dismissed the opponents of the initiative as not being honest in their criticism.
