Laikipia Governor Muriithi calls for constructive BBI debate

Laikipia Governor Ndiriti Muriithi called for a constructive debate on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report and its recommendations.

Laikipia Governor Ndiriti Muriithi called for a constructive debate on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report and its recommendations.

Speaking in Nyahururu on Thursday, Governor Muriithi said that all leaders in the country needed to recognize that constitution-making was a process and all leaders needed to come together and hold a consultative and constructive debate without name-calling.

Governor Muriithi also said that leaders needed to improve on the BBI report for the sake of the country and its people.

He further said while the BBI report contained great proposals with merit, the document needed to be enriched, to among other things, strengthen devolution through upgrading the Senate.

He said that there was a need for Governors to make sure that the recommendations touching on money to the counties were firmly anchored in the report.

Governor Muriithi said that governors have been facing problems with the disbursement of funds to counties and this is one of the issues that need to be discussed.
