Normal operations at the Mombasa Law Courts were paralyzed Wednesday morning with staff forced into a crisis meeting following the death of one of the magistrates stationed at the court.

This was after Chief Justice David Maraga announced the passing on of Mombasa Principal Magistrate Elvis Michieka.

In a statement, Maraga announced that Michieka died at Karen Hospital in Nairobi, where he was receiving treatment for the past two weeks.

Maraga termed Michieka as a dedicated judicial officer who rendered his services with exceptional diligence.

“Just last month he was interviewed for promotion and has been awaiting the results of the exercise. I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the family.” Maraga said in the statement.

Kenya Judges and Magistrates Association Secretary-General Derrick Kuto also mourned Michieka, describing him as a brother and friend who was dedicated to his work.

“We have lost a brother, a friend and a diligent colleague. He is an irreplaceable pillar. I wish to convey our condolences to the family and friends,” said Kuto.
