MP Kimani Ngunjiri says Women are not Yet Ready to for big positions
Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has warned against electing women to senior and big positions like the presidency and the governor seat.
The MP has warned that electing more women into such positions could destroy the moral fibre of the traditional African values.
The legislator was overheard explaining to a group of elderly men why he is not supporting Nakuru senator Susan Kihika for the governor seat.
According to the MP, Women like Kihika should only hold positions that are not demanding and that they should serve when appointed for easy monitoring.
“ She is not ready and generally women in Kenya are still far from convincing us that they should be voted in this position,” the MP is heard saying in the kikuyu dialect.
The remarks have angered women and youths in the constituency who are now demanding an apology from the MP and a statement from the UDA party.
Interestingly, the MP is facing serious competition from Jubilee’s Irene Njoki who is deemed favourite to win the Bahati seat.
The agenda for August 9 election has now turned into a women issue especially after the Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga nominated Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua to be his running mate.
Deputy President William Ruto was also forced to sign a special charter detailing what his government will offer women if he is elected.
Currently there are two women elected governors; Charity Ngilu of Kitui and Ann Waiguru of Kirinyaga
