Nairobi to target more investors in Dubai’s Expo

Ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic, Nairobi has its eyes set on the Dubai Expo 2020.

Nairobi which is the most robust economic territory is targeting more investors in manufacturing sector as the city struggles to recover from the effects of Covid-19.

Job losses and closure of small scale businesses has been the order of the day but Deputy Governor Ann Kananu believes there is room and the potential to recover.

Speaking when she met with CEO of the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency, Dr. Wilfred Marube,Kananu said that there are many areas of partnerships that can be explored to help spur economic growth among the city population.

“We will showcase Nairobi City as a premium capital City that is able to attract tourists and investors. This is a good initiative that will market Nairobi City and Kenya as a whole, despite the effects of Covid-19 pandemic.”

More than 192 nations have confirmed participation in the expo.

Dr. Marube said that there were many opportunities of patnership between Nairobi City County Government, Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA) and Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) to help elevate the status of Nairobi which is the gateway to the East African region.

“World Expos are held to promote and showcase economic, scientific advancements. This is also an opportunity of showcasing historical experiences,”

Nairobi County Executive Committee Member for Commerce, Tourism and Cooperatives, Ms. Winfred Gathagu thanked the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency for considering Nairobi as a key partner.

“Nairobi City County Government will be able to identify and engage with SMEs in the City and innovators who are ready to participate in this Expo.

In attendance was Acting County Secretary, Dr Jairus Musumba, Chuef of Staf, Mutunga Mutungi, Sylvester Kasuku, the Governors’ Economic and Strategy Advisor, Kathleen Kihanya, Board Member, Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency,
Jane Kagiri and Mwikamba Mghenyi from Nairobi Metropolitan Services(NMS).
