Western region leaders and the clergy have in unison condemned the LGBTQ movement in the region citing that it is unnatural and acceptable in the African culture.

While addressing mourners at Chemoge Mt.Elgon, Kimilili MP Didimus Baraza strongly disagreed with anyone purporting to support the LGBTQ organization stating that it’s an acceptable.

“We as luhyas and Sabaots here do not subscribe to such satanism, we can neither support same sex relationships nor marriages; we call upon the clergy to pray and curse this act in the strongest terms possible,” said Didimus.

The legislator also stated that whoever is in support of the LGBTQ movement should relocate to the Western countries where they can be accommodated since they have no place in Africa.

In a different forum held by  Red Cross in Cheptais, Mt. Elgon, leaders had their say on the rainbow movement.

Though the forum was primarily meant to sensitize the community on Gender Based Violence(GBV) and defilement, the stakeholders present could not miss out on touching on the sensitive matter.

Reverend Stephen Kimengich of Reformed Church of East Africa (Cheptais region) stated that the church will by no means aid the survival of such an abomination either in Mt. Elgon, Western region or Kenya at large.

“In Genesis 2, God instituted marriage and we can’t support LGBTQ, we stand with the government to strongly stand against this,” commented Rev. Kimengich.

Red Cross however, sensitized citizens of all calibre on matters related to violence and defilement which has become rampant in the region mostly in marriages.

While addressing the forum, Vella Chebus, the area chief Cheptais location applauded Red Cross for the sensitization and expressed her optimism in zero tolerance to gender based violence.

“It is great that all stakeholders are present here so that the information will be spread like wild fire,”Chebus said.

“Let’s work together from bodaboda, nyumba kumi to religious leaders in reporting such cases promptly to police station and taking victims to hospitals to ensure execution of justice as required,” Chebus reiterated.
