NUMCA asks politicians to preach peace ahead of polls, drums support for Igathe
The National Upcountry Muslims Caucus (NUMCA) is appealing to Kenyans and especially the political class to ensure the country remains peaceful before, during, and after elections,
Addressing the media on Tuesday, the Caucus’ National Chairman Dr Hassan Kinyua Omari says politicians have the greatest responsibility of ensuring the country is peaceful as we head to the August polls.
He also asks the relevant authorities like the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure that in future no politician is cleared to run for any position if their academic qualifications are questionable.
‘The said people with questionable academic credentials need to drop out and get back to class. It is also amazing that someone failed to finish his studies in Kenya and rushed to a neighboring country to get questionable certificates.’ Dr Hassan said.
His earlier remarks of peace were Mzee Salim Abdalla, the Patron National Peace Consortium, Bhudhists in Kenya representative Kadioli Mwanzi and NUMCA National Women Leader Zulekha Abdi.
Ms Zulekha offered that in case of a crisis, it is women who suffer the most and asked women to support each other during the elections.
NUMCA also appealed to Nairobians not to repeat the 2017 mistake of electing someone as Governor with questionable character.
Dr Hassan said Nairobians need to elect Polycarp Igathe as governor saying he has the right experience for the job.
‘Nairobians made a mistake in 2017 of electing Mike Sonko as Governor. He surrounded himself with thugs and accessing him was difficult. We need Polycarp Igathe. We sat with him and after listening to him, we realized he is the right man to steer Nairobi to greater heights,’ Dr Hassan said.
He said Igathe will weed out cartels who have held City Hall hostage.
