President Uhuru commends Education stakeholders for successful delivery of exams

President Uhuru Kenyatta has commended the Ministry of Education, the various State agencies, schools, parents and candidates for the successful delivery of the examinations despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

President Kenyatta spoke Thursday at State House, Nairobi, after receiving the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results from Education CS Prof George Magoha ahead of their release.

During the morning briefing, the President also directed all relevant education stake holders to ensure that all teachers receive the Covid-19 vaccine irrespective of the age.

Head of Public Service Dr Joseph Kinyua, Prof Magoha was accompanied by Basic Education PS Dr Julius Jwan, Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) CEO Dr Mercy Karogo, Teachers Service Commission CEO Dr Nancy Macharia and KNEC Council Member Rosemary Saina were present during the briefing.

“His Excellency the President has allowed us to ensure that all teachers be allowed to take COVID-19 vaccine, irrespective of their age,” said Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia.

According to the TSC CEO, four teachers, three deputy head teachers and eight head teachers to the pandemic in primary schools alone.

A total of 1,187,517 candidates across the country sat their 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.

This is the first time National examinations were conducted away from the traditional November and December months following disruptions occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 2020 KCPE exercise involved 28,467 Centre mangers 28, 711 supervisors, 72,360 invigilators, 4756 Examiners.

TSC CEO Nancy Macharia said that many of the examiners went to the marking centres immediately after invigilating the same KCPE examinations.
