President William Ruto on Thursday met Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli at State House, Nairobi.

Ruto and Atwoli held discussions touching on Kenya’s ratification of the International Labour Organisation (ILO)’s Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (C190).

The convention, which was adopted in June 2019 is the first international treaty to recognize the right of everyone to a world of work free from violence and harassment, including gender-based violence and harassment.

It came into force on June 25, 2021.

In a tweet after the meeting, Atwoli said he had also sought an appointment with President Ruto for a meeting which brings together all COTU-affiliated secretaries.

“This morning I paid a courtesy call to H.E President William Ruto whereby we held discussions on Kenya’s ratification of ILO C190 and outsourcing of labour. I also sought an appointment with the Head of State to meet and share with all @COTU_K Affiliated General Secretaries,” he wrote.
