Kenya Primary Schools Head Teachers Association [KEPSHA] has lauded the move by the government under President William Ruto to establish the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms.

KEPSHA National Chairman Johnson Nzioka said they truly appreciate the Head of State’s move which they said is timely.

He said the association had the opportunity to submit its views and recommendations on the appropriate structure to implement the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

“We are happy that our recommendations have been taken into account given that the interim report is recommending the domiciling of junior high school in primary school,” he pointed out

Nzioka said he acknowledges the role KEPSHA plays in education and in the delivery of its mandate.

He was speaking on the second day of the ongoing 18th KEPSHA delegates conference at Sheikh Zayed Children Welfare Centre in Mombasa County. Almost 10,000  members are attending the one week forum.

The KEPSHA chairman  pointed out there are areas where they request government support and that of the ministry to actualize their objectives.

Nzioka said the objectives are geared towards making the learning environment better for the children’s social, academic and emotional well-being including learners with special needs.

He disclosed the government’s recent policy initiatives have focused on the attainment of Education For All (EFA) and Universal Primary Education (UPE).

The key concerns are access, retention, equity, quality and relevance, and internal and external efficiencies within the education system. “We appreciate the partnership with government to develop strategies for moving the country towards the attainment of this goal,” he said.
