Tana River leaders up in arms against discrimination by the government

Elected leaders from Tana River county are up in arms against the government for discriminating against them for a long time.  

The county woman representative Amina Dika said despite their wealth in natural resources they are being discriminated against.  

She said apart from the natural resources they also engage in farming and livestock but have been left out on matters of national interest.

“The county has been left out of the government’s empowerment program due to lack of national identification cards,” she pointed out.

Amina expressed her disappointment and wondered how one can empower the youth when they cannot get national identification cards.

She was addressing the media alongside an induction retreat at PrideInn Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa County.

The county woman representative said she regrets there are women aged over 60 years but lack identification cards.

Amina pointed out that several sub-counties within the county lack police stations and birth and death registration offices among amenities.

She asked the government to stop ignoring their county refuting claims they are not united.

“We have resolved to bury our hatchets for the sake of development and for the sake of the electorate,” she pointed out.

The county woman representative told journalists they have resolved to put the past behind them and to forge ahead into a new political dawn after last August’s elections.
