The Mombasa health taskforce report is released

Mombasa county government community health workers have been recommended to be placed under the level of mentorship.

Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir said he is determined to ensure the law is followed to have community health workers placed under mentorship.

He said the move will embrace and improve the health sector in the county.

“There is an urgent need to enroll more residents into the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) scheme,” he pointed out.

Abdulswamad said the move is in line with their campaign agenda to ensure the majority of the county residents enroll in NHIF program.

He was speaking after being handed a health taskforce report headed by former Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union secretary-general Dr Chibanzi Mwachonda at his office in Mombasa county.

The governor said the task force has recommended the health sector to move into Digital operational System in the entire county.

Abdulswamad said the move is in line with the world which is now in the digital era.

He added it reduces paperwork and massive corruption in the health sector by sealing loopholes.

“It will end handling of cash transactions and all cash transactions will be on a digital platform program,” he pointed out.

The county chief insisted the digital era platform will end the waste of time and avert unnecessary movement to access medical services.

Abdulswamad told journalists they recommended some of the hospitals will be turned into special units to reduce congestion at the Coast Provincial General Hospital (Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital).
