Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko Keriako Tobiko has implored upon the incoming administration to fastrack amendment of the NEMA Bill that seeks to empower NEMA with police powers.

The bill was bypassed by the 12th Parliament that is currently on terminal leave.

Tobiko spoke at Michuki Memorial Park while officiating the awarding ceremony for National Environment Tribunal and Nema Kenya

National Environment Tribunal was ranked the best in the caseload category in an evaluation exercise covering 2019 and 2020.

The evaluation was conducted by the Judiciary and NET emerged position one in the category of 1000 cases and below for all tribunals in Kenya.

“NEMA is awarding the CEO and members of the board and staff for outstanding contribution towards NEMA’s recognition as Africa’s Environmental Regulator of the year 2022,” he said

NEMA Director General, Mamo Mamo was recognized as Africa Public Sector CEO of the Year at the third Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards ceremony in Accra, Ghana.

The award is in recognition of his sterling performance in environmental conservation in Kenya.

The awarding ceremony was attended by representative of the Judiciary Ann Asuga, NET Chairperson Mohammed Balala, NET CEO Belinda Akello, KFS Mr Noor Hussein, NEMA Board members led by Chairperson Dr Lul Abdiwahid, DG Mamo Mamo, judges among others.
