The government has set two days for an interview to recruit a new Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] Managing  Director which  is long overdue.

The exercise is currently taking place at Boma hotel in the capital city and it is expected to end tomorrow, Thursday.

The shortlisted candidates are expected to face newly appointed state corporation board of directors headed by KPA chairman Benjamin Tayari at the hotel.

The new board consists of former Malindi MP Lucas Maitha, Musa Osman, Emmanuel Kibet, Consolata Lusweti and Caroline Njoki.

The candidates are divided  into two groups with six slotted to appear on the first day and the other six on the last day of the exercise.

We have established that consultant Stanley Ndege Chai is on the list of those battling for the top KPA post.

Chai managed to score 58.2 percent during a previous interview for the same post after being  trounced by then Managing Director Catherine Mturi-Wairi in the race to replace former MD Mr Gichiri Ndua who had been sent packing.

Former NSSF Managing Trustee-turned politician Alex Kazongo who served as KPA General Manager Finance and KPA General Manager Operation and Harbour Sudi Mwasingo will be trying their luck once more after previously taking part in a similar exercise.

They are both shortlisted in government’s efforts to get a Managing Director after the exit of Daniel Manduku in 2020.

He had insisted that the government will unveil the new KPA Managing  Director before  April 1 adding that he has already held a discussion with acting MD Amb. John Mwangemi on the transitional process at the state corporation.

“The transition will be smooth when the announcement is made on the change of guard,” he had said.
