Uhuru tours construction site of Thwake dam

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday toured the expansive Thwake Dam in Makueni County which is currently under construction.

The 80.5m high mega dam sits on 9,217 acres of land at the intersection of rivers Thwake and Athi in Makueni County.

Besides supplying treated water to over 1.3 million residents of the lower eastern counties of Makueni, Machakos and Kitui as well as the Konza Technologies when complete, the reservoir will be utilized for hydroelectric generation, irrigation and drought/flood mitigation activities.

The President was joined on the inspection tour by former Premier Raila Odinga, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Ukambani leaders led by Governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Prof Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni).

Also accompanying the Head of State are Cabinet Secretaries Sicily Kariuki (Water), Eugene Wamalwa ( Devolution) and Dr Monica Juma (Defence) among other Senior Gov’t officials.
