University student leaders now want Sakaja back to class to finish his studies

The top leadership of University Students across all public and private universities on Monday condemned the now-infamous trend where several politicians have been connected to either having questionable Degree certificates or fake ones.

Addressing the media from outside the gates of the University of Nairobi, the student leaders led by former SONU Chairperson Simon Mwangi and current UNSA Secretary-General Vivian Kabiru, the leaders have specifically taken issue with Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja who was apparently a student at UoN but did not graduate.

They are now appealing to the senator eyeing the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat to get back to class and finish his studies and stop tainting the University’s otherwise good reputation.

The student leaders addressed the media outside UoN gates on Monday.

‘We are asking Senator Johnson Sakaja to stop running away from the truth and get back to lecture halls and finish his studies. We cannot sit and watch when such people seek higher offices when they have indeed not finished their courses and graduated. It is also disheartening that they have the audacity to try and use fake degree certificates purporting that they got them from our institutions when they are fake,’ they lamented.

Sakaja had tried to use a fake certificate from UoN to get clearance by IEBC to run for THE Nairobi top seat but he was stopped in his tracks.

The University of Nairobi (UoN) affirmed that the politician did not graduate from the prestigious university.

The UoN Communication director, John Orindi, clarified the reports to the media that Sakaja was admitted to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science in 2003 but did not graduate after clearing his four years degree.

He referred to a previous statement issued by the university which pointed out that the Senator did not graduate in 2007 as his transcripts were incomplete, contrary to his initial claims in past interviews.

Sakaja has since asked the IEBC tribunal to dismiss the complaint filed against him over his academic certificates.

In a response to the complaint, Sakaja says that he holds a Bachelor of Science in Management degree conferred to him by Team University in Uganda.

He further states Team University is in Uganda and is duly recognised in the Republic of Uganda.

“My qualifications and academic credentials are not in doubt having affirmed through a lawful process,” Sakaja says.
