68 students and 5 teachers from Bahati Girls in Nakuru County have tested positive for COVID-19 and are now in isolation.

Nakuru County Health CEC Kariuki Gichuki also confirms that 115 students are in quarantine and that a student who tested positive developed complications and is being attended at Nakuru PGH COVID-19 isolation and management center.

He further says that a medical team is now monitoring the students and teachers in isolation and quarantine at the school and assures the public that the Health department is monitoring the COVID-19 situation across the County.

“A team from the Health Department has been conducting COVID-19 prevention and management for learning institutions. The ongoing program targets teachers, students and non-teaching staff across the County,” Gichuki says.

Gichuki has called for calm and urges Nakuru residents to continue observing the COVID-19 prevention protocols saying that everyone should be wary of the second wave.

On Tuesday, 52 students at Kolanya Boys High school in Busia County tested positive for Covid-19 after random tests were conducted on 100 individuals at the school.

The results announced by County Governor Sospeter Ojaamong revealed that the students as well as six of their teachers and two members of the support staff had contracted the virus.

Ojaamong said health workers had been deployed to the institution with those who tested positive now in isolation.

Two weeks ago, three secondary schools in Mombasa County were shut down over COVID -19 infections, days after the country re-opened learning institutions countrywide.

Several teachers from Star of the Sea Girls’ Secondary School, Mama Ngina Girls’ High School and Tononoka Boys’ Secondary School were reported to have contracted the virus leading to the closure.

At least 11 teachers from Tononoka and four others from Mama Ngina were confirmed positive for the infectious disease.
