Mombasa governor  Abdulswamad Nassir has passionately appealed to county residents not to allow religious affiliations to divide them.

He urged them to ensure they put aside their religious beliefs when it comes to matters of development and prosperity in the county.

“Mombasa belongs to the people of Mombasa despite ethnic, religious and racial background and they are all within their constitutional right to live in the county,” he pointed out.

Abdulswamad asked the residents to leave the tradition of being divided along religious beliefs and instead live in harmony as county residents.

He was speaking during the launch of Mombasa ni yangu program famously known as county casual workers at the Treasury Square garden in Mvita constituency, Mombasa county.

The governor cautioned he won’t entertain the language of division along religious lines to be used by county residents.

Abdulswamad reiterated all county residents have a constitutional right to reside in the county.

He defended the 2,000 casual workers’ program carried out randomly to avoid favoritism in the employment exercise.

“The random picking has addressed gender parity in the recruitment exercise,” he pointed out.

The county boss told the forum the three-month casual workers’ recruitment exercise targets youths, persons living with disability and women.

Abdulswamad cautioned he does not want to hear the dues of casual workers are delayed adding that their payment must be channeled through a local financial institution.

He directed all casual employees will be paid their dues on a weekly and not monthly basis through a local financial institution.

“As county boss, I would not like to hear their weekly dues are delayed,” he said.
