Expect more directives from the govt as country starts to experience second wave of Covid-19, CS Kagwe

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has said that Kenyans should expect new directives from the government as he confirmed that the country is currently experiencing the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kagwe says that the summit between Governors and the President next week Wednesday will provide the government with the way forward on the rising cases of the disease in the country.

“It’s still clear that the spread of the disease is largely from areas where people are crowded, especially in entertainment areas. If you must go to have a ‘kaspecial’ go outside, try and do it outside.” Kagwe said.

Kagwe also said it’s time the government mobilized community leaders to ensure that everyone adheres to the Covid-19 guidelines.

“Don’t visit places where individuals are inches away. Containment is not a matter of the government but every individual. We must be disciplined,” He advised.

The Health CS further asked Kenyans to now embrace personal responsibility since once one is positive it will be a family responsibility.

He added that going forward, the key fundamental management for containing the disease will be Home-based Care saying that that will be the key in managing the second wave as families must now be ready to manage people who are positive but aren’t sick

This is as the country recorded 761 new cases on Thursday, bringing the country’s total load to 52,612.

 Kagwe said this was from a sample of 4,830 tested in the last 24 hours.

Another 14 patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing the country’s fatalities to 964.

A total of 1,084 people are currently admitted in various hospitals with 35 in the intensive Care Unit.

Out of this, 14 others are on supplementary oxygen, 18 patients are on ventilatory support and 24 in the High Dependency Unit.
