Former Pope Benedict XVI laid to rest

Former Pope Benedict XVI was buried according to his wishes next to Pope John Paul the Second.
The simple burial was attended by a delegation from Italy and Germany which was officially invited.
Mourners thronged St. Peter’s Basilica square for the funeral service and the simple requiem mass service was presided over by Pope Francis.
The late Pope died on New Year’s eve with uninvited heads of state attending in their unofficial capacity.
