Government petitioned to quash the appointment of KMA Director General Robert Njue

The government has been petitioned to cancel the appointment of Robert Njue as Director General of Kenya Maritime Authority [KMA] to replace Major (Rtd) George Nyamoko who resigned in a huff.

Changamwe lawmaker Omar Mwinyi accused Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia of promoting the elite at the ministry.

He said he has evidence that Njue was the Cabinet Secretary’s project and he was not among the best and was not qualified for the post.

“To make matters worse the newly appointed KMA boss failed the interview and was at the bottom of the candidates yet the best was left out,” he pointed out.

Mwinyi challenged the government to start with canceling Njue’s appointment at the authority when pushing for inclusivity in the proposed Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

He spoke during Bernard Ogutu Sports extravaganza day organized by the local member of county assembly [MCA] at Changamwe sports ground in Mombasa county.

The MP lashed out at the government for not strengthening devolution and going against the proposals in the initiatives.

Mwinyi reminded the forum he is sure the best candidate for the authority post was left out in favor of Njue who is not the suitable person to replace Nyamoko.

He cautioned the government against preaching water in their BBI campaign while drinking wine.

“I am surprised to see the government left out maritime expert Murshid Abdalla who was the best among those who faced the panel of interviewers,” he pointed out.

The MP said Njue lacks knowledge and expertise in the maritime sector to serve the authority for a period of three years.

Mwinyi said the candidate who was left out has a Masters degree while Njue is less qualified to fill the vacant post.

He said Njue was appointed because the head of the ministry and the Shipping and Maritime Affairs Principal Secretary Nancy Karigithu hail from the Mount Kenya region.
