Human Rights Activists demand for answers on extra judicial killings

Human rights lobby groups under the umbrella of missing voices are demanding for answers over the extra judicial killings in the country by the police.

Led by Haki Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid through the forum of sisters for justice on Mombasa social justice centre, they accused police officers of extra judicial killings last year.

Khalid told journalists as the country marks the first anniversary since the government announced the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic they would like to point out the killings carried out by the police during enforcing of rules to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

“We demand an explanation from the Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai over the extra judicial killings,” he pointed out.

Khalid said 157 cases of extra judicial killings is the highest number and which is alarming.

He spoke during the launch of revamped website at Mama Ngina Water front in Mvita constituency, Mombasa county.

The Haki Africa Executive Director said it is regretful that 13 persons were killed by those who are supposed to protect them.

Khalid, who was flanked by Muslims for Human Rights [MUHURI] board chairman Khelef Khalifa and chairperson Amnesty Kenya Rene Ngamau, said as missing voices they are not ready to hide the truth and they will continue to speak openly and louder against the incidents.

He said they demand police officers behind the extra judicial killings to face the law.

“Action must be taken swiftly against the police officers behind the killing of innocent Kenyans,” he stated.
