International Transport Federation [ITF] representative Gladys ChepKorir who is also Inua Mama Mashinani Jenga Taifa Chief Executive Officer has declared her interest to vie for the post of treasurer in the forthcoming elections for the giant Dock Workers Union [DWU].

She made the announcement after storming a DWU national executive committee meeting held at the union headquarters along Jomo Kenyatta Avenue where they resolved to hold the election on May 13.

“I am in the line up to fight for the position of treasurer being currently held by Joseph Makero who is set to retire,” she pointed out.

Gladys defended the track record of embattled DWU Secretary General Simon Sang saying that is why she has joined his line up in the next union polls.

She was addressing journalists after attending a closed door meeting in Mvita constituency in Mombasa county.

Meanwhile, DWU Secretary General said the union election will be held for all declared posts as resolved during the national executive committee meeting.

Sang advised aspirants interested to vie for the union posts to apply by contacting the union secretariat at the union headquarters.

He further said the DWU administrator will provide the requirements to the aspirants before they make an application with the closing date set for April 4.

This is in a rare joint signed circular by Sang and national chairman Mohamed Sheria to all union members and election aspirants.
