Justice and legal affairs committee to adopt proposals from members

The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee chaired by Hon. George Gitonga Murugara (Tharaka) have today met to consider and adopt different Amendment proposals that have been proposed by different Members of National Assembly.

The Amendment proposals include the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2023 by Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri (Laikipia East), which seeks to amend different electoral-related Acts and the Kenya School of Law (Amendment) Bill, 2023, by Hon Jane Njeri Maina (Kirinyaga), which seeks to confer upon the Council of Legal Education the power to prescribe admission requirements.

The committee also considered and adopted the Conflict of Interest Bill, 2023; a Bill for an Act of Parliament to provide for the management and regulation of conflict of interest in the discharge of official duties and connected purposes which is sponsored by the Leader of Majority Party Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu).

Finally, the committee also considered and adopted the amendment proposals by the Leader of the Minority Party Hon. Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), seeking to abolish the death penalty.

The committee will now forward their recommendations on these proposals to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Moses Wetang’ula, who will then consider publishing them.
