KANU drums support for BBI in Nairobi.

Independence party Kanu continued to drum up support for the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill 2020, a product of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

On Thursday, Kanu Chairperson Gideon Moi who is also the Baringo Senator pitched camp in the capital Nairobi where he hosted several city leaders to drum up support for the Bill.

On the day when the BBI Secretariat handed over more than 3 million signatures appended by Kenyans in support of the bill to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Senator Moi said Nairobi County plays a strategic role as a capital city and a devolved unit, both locally and regionally, and therefore, must be strengthened in its regional position as a business hub by expanding its infrastructural capacity and providing a conducive business environment for micro and medium enterprises to flourish.

Moi said he was glad that the residents of Nairobi were very emphatic in their support for the reform agenda that the drive is pursuing.

Moi further explained how youth will benefit through changes brought by BBI, and urged them to support the move for constitutional change.

“Rais Uhuru Kenyatta na Raila Odinga waliweka ambitions zao kando wakafanya handshake na kupitia handshake tumepata BBI. BBI inampa kila Mkenya haki na nafasi ya kuongoza.” Moi said in Swahili loosely translated to mean that President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga put aside their ambitions and agreed to work together leading to the handshake that brought about BBI, and that now BBI has given anyone a chance to lead.

Present in the meeting were Nairobi Senator, Hon. Johnson Sakaja, Nairobi Woman Representative, Hon. Esther Passaris, Senator Abshiro Halake, Tiaty MP William Kamket, Makadara MP, Hon. George Aladwa, former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu, former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo and former Nairobi County Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
