KCB Dislodged as Driftwoods Sevens Circuit Champs by Sugar Millers

Kabra Sugar reclaimed the national sevens circuit title cup quarters during Driftwoods Sevens of the sportspesa second league played at the weekend in Mombasa county.

The two day tournament saw the Driftwoods champs beat Menengai Oilers from Nakuru 10-7 during the finals played at Mombasa Sports Club.

Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir  who was accompanied by his county executive committee in charge of sports Kenneth Muigai was at the tournament venue despite challenges to grace the awarding ceremony.

The final Rugby tournament was forced into a sudden death penalty session after both teams tied 7-7 on scores.

The match saw the teams going into a seesaw without any results until the final whistle.

The new champs’ player Jono Kubu managed to score a penalty after a scramble occurred at the  runners-up’s goal post.

The sugar milers who were awarded a 100,000 cheque and a cup came from behind amid tensions after the Oilers team too a lead with 7 points before Criffin Chao levelled the score.   

Kabra Sugar has won after being beaten by Kenya Commercial Bank [KCB] during the Dala series last weekend.   

The finals were watched by a fair crowd and saw the bankers taking the third slot to pocket Sh 25,000.  

The champs beat Strathmore to qualify to the finals during the semi finals.  

The Oilers who were awarded a cheque of Sh 50,000 will host the third league of the series this weekend in Nakuru county.
