Port City host National Sevens Rugby Circuit this Weekend

The sports fraternity drawn from the coast region is expected to throng the Mombasa sports club for this year’s a National Sevens Rugby Circuit.

Mombasa rugby chairman Rogers Lai said the sports club will host this year’s rugby 7s which is part of the National Sevens Rugby Circuit  sponsored by SportsPesa.

He insisted the tournament is called SportsPesa circuit which is a competitive tournament 2023.

“The two day tournament will have division one and two and it’s an open tournament,” he pointed out.

Lai said he expects a good turn out during the two day event at the coastal city.

He was addressing journalists before the kick off of the event on Saturday and Sunday at the Mombasa sports club in Mombasa county.

The Mombasa rugby chairman told journalists the first league of the tournament was held at the Lakeside city of Kisumu last weekend.

Lai confirmed the second league is being held at the coastal city this weekend.

He assured the sports fraternity they have lined up several activities throughout  the two day National Sevens Rugby Circuit.

“Security has been beefed up with the deployment of enough security personnel,” he added.

The Mombasa rugby chairman has appealed to county residents to turn up in large numbers as arrangements have been made to cater for those who will be making their way to watch the two day event.

Lai told journalists they have a program in place to tap the talent of upcoming rugby players.

He added the tournament goes hand in hand with the Kenya Rugby Union who they work closely with.

“Plans are at an advanced stage for the venue to host international rugby matches,” he disclosed.
