The new Government led by President William Ruto has been implored upon to continue strengthening the key pillar of Agriculture which is a key enabler for economic transformation.

The Chairman of Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA) David Muni Ichoho has exuded confidence that the new administration will boost agricultural productivity which is evident through the lowering of fertilizer prices.

“I wish to Congratulate His Excellency the President Dr. William Ruto on assumption of Office as 5th President of Kenya. I wish to thank you for providing farmers with a fertilizer subsidy of Kshs 3.7 billion, translating to a price reduction  from Kshs 5,617 to KES 3,500.

As farmers, we pledge to work hard to ensure high production of tea for our consumption and export.

KTDA remains the world’s largest smallholder exporter of high quality tea. Your Excellency, we  promise to sustain this global accolade. Wish you Godspeed as you govern our country.”

Mr Ichoho also outlined plans to continue boosting our tea market through diversification especially at a time when traditional markets are facing turbulent times.

“Pakistan is one of the biggest consumer of Kenyan tea but it has had its fair share of challenges including natural catastrophe like the recent flooding leaving thousands homeless and off course devastating the economy. This is why we are exploring new markets as a long term measure for sustainability.”
