A tough legal battle is awaiting South C ODM Member of County Assembly aspirants’ lawyers at the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal over the ‘irregular’ issuance of the South C nomination certificate.

The seat has attracted intense pressure and condemnation after issuance of a direct ticket to Ibrahim Abbas despite party elections having taken place.

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal has since summoned ODM National Elections Board Chairperson Cathrine Mumma and the returning officer for Langata Caroline Angote over dispute in the issuance of South C MCA certificate.

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal is seeking answers on why the board issued South C nomination certificate to Abbas Khalif who came second in party primaries.

The current South C Member of County Assembly Osman Khalif had disputed the decision to issue Ibrahim Abbas with ODM ticket.

Osman trounced Abbas Khalif in the just concluded primaries.

Osman garnered 436 votes while Abbas came second with 289 votes.

“We appeared before the Tribunal today, we made an application to cross examine the returning officer that is Caroline Angote and the National Election Board chair that is professor Cathrine Mamma on the veracity of the affidavit that they had sworn in opposition to Hon Osman complains.

When we made that application the tribunal directed that they appear before the tribunal tomorrow at 3pm.” Lawyer Biko Ashioya told the media.
