A lobby group supporting over 10,000 street children, slum families and people affected by fistula is now seeking for financial aid to give a helping hand to Kenyans affected by Covid-19 pandemic.

the group, Asante Mzazi Foundation says that following the introduction of the latest Covid-19 spread mitigation measures they have received an overwhelming number of Kenyans seeking support from the organization which is beyond their capacity and has become a challenge for them to grip.

According to Director and founder of the initiative Agnes Mwongera, they have over 10,000 families in their feeding programs drawn from Nairobi, Narok, Isiolo, Tharaka Nithi and Meru counties.

“Asante Mzazi Foundation is a registered non-governmental organization which assists the vulnerable, less fortunate and the elderly in the society, mentor the youths especially those in slums by having a face to face sections during workshops and seminars. Our vision and mission is to change the world in which we operate by inspiring the less fortunate in the community especially single mothers, children and the aged and encourage them to live a world without poverty,” she told thetimes.

Mwongera said the organization has been sourcing funds, foodstuffs, beddings and clothing from friends and well-wishers as they don’t have consistent donors or sponsors.

“I have received countless calls, messages and mails from Kenyans unable to afford a meal per day amidst the third wave of this deadly pandemic. I’m appealing to the government, well-wishers and donors to help us reach more vulnerable families,” she pleaded.

She added that lack of an office is also undermining their operations.

Asante Mzazi Foundation was recognized last year as the charity group of the year after conducting youth workshops, women mentorships, donation of food and sanitary pads to women in streets and slums.
