The government will work with the Mombasa county government to complete the stalled Mombasa county stadium.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba lauded efforts done by the county government to ensure the stadium is revamped.

He disclosed they have resolved to work together as team to ensure the sports facility is back to utilization.

It will be unfair for county residents not being able to use the facility after paying their taxes which will go to waste,” he argued.

Namwamba said it will be an injustice for the government not to ensure the completion of the sports facility.

He was speaking during his fact-finding mission of the project in Mvita constituency, which has stalled for the last 10 years.

The CS insisted the only justice President William Ruto can do for the sports fraternity in the county is the completion of the stalled stadium so that it can be used by the residents.

Namwamba said the Kenya Kwanza administration is determined to ensure the revival of the sports facility being in a county which is a tourism hub which is the backbone of the country’s economy.

MeanwhileKenya Ports Authority [KPA] Managing Director Captain William Ruto said the upgrade of the Mbaraki sports club will be done in several phases.

He insisted the project will be done in line with international standards and will include the upgrading of the running trucks with athletic tartan.

The upgrade of the football pitch is also part of the project,” he pointed out.

Ruto disclosed there will be provision of infrastructure to take up the irrigation and drainage for the famous football pitch.

The remarks were contained in a speech read on his behalf by KPA General Manager Cargo Operations Dr. Sudi Mwasinago during a ground breaking ceremony for the upgrading of the KPA Mbaraki sports facility in Mombasa county.
