New Somalia President Urged to Forge Diplomatic Ties

Hundreds of Somalis based in Nairobi gathered to celebrate the peaceful transfer of power in Somalia and the election of president Hassan Sheikh Mahamud at the Sir Ali Muslim Club in Pangani today.

Speaking at the event hosted by the Eastleigh Business Community, Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan, congratulated Hassan Sheikh Mahmud for his election as the new president of Somalia and encouraged him to turn around the strained diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He said he was confident that the new Somali leader will quickly repair and restore relations between the two sisterly states and take them to a higher and a mutual beneficial level.

Other speakers included the Somali Ambassador to Kenya, Mohamed Ahmed Nur Tarzan.

The large audience unequivocally endorsed Yusuf Hassan’s candidature and unanimously pledged to re-elect him as their MP in the 9 August elections.

The Kamukunji MP who is serving his three term is seeking a fourth in the forthcoming elections .
